Operational Technology Solutions (OTS) have developed the world’s leading suite of IoT based sensors for Utilities.

Our sensors:

  • Are all based on a common core
  • Are communication agnostic
  • Are based on open standards
  • Are secure
  • Can be powered or battery powered (+10-year battery life)
  • Are designed to minimise capital and operational expenditure
  • Support remote firmware update
  • Support downloadable JavaScript applications
  • Are based on an enterprise architecture that can be on or off premise (AWS / Azure)
  • Seamlessly integrate with backend systems such Analytics and SCADA

Communications

The OTS sensor platform was designed to be communications agnostic and to support all LPWAN technologies.

All OTS sensors support LTE / LTE Cat M1 / LTE Cat M2 / Itron MilliNIC and Itron RIVA.

Downloadable JavaScript Applications

All sensors have a common core whose behaviour is determined by downloadable JavaScript applications.

Customers can write their own JavaScript applications or modify the standard OTS JavaScript applications.

This allows the sensors to increase in functionality over their lifespan and take advantage of the distributed computing power in the sensors.

Reduced Capital and Operational Expenditure

Through the use of IoT technologies and a common core across all sensors our solutions offer material reductions in both capital and operational expenditure.

The focus on reducing expenditure continues into installation – with substantial thought given to minimising installation and commissioning costs.

DevOps Support

The use of a common core and downloadable JavaScript applications allows the customer or OTS to cost effectively and rapidly develop custom solutions that are vital in a rapidly changing landscape.

The JavaScript applications are run in a sandbox and cannot impair the operation of the sensors leading to faster development and deployment timelines.

Open Standards

From the outside the sensors were based on IoT standards such as Lightweight M2M (LWM2M), COAP and DTLS. This allows the sensors to work seamlessly with our head end or a wide range of other head ends (e.g. Cumulocity) and platforms (AWS or Azure).

Enterprise Architecture

Our sensors are designed to integrate with all your business systems. As such we support APIs and a set of Gateways that facilitate integration with analytics, SCADA/DMS/OMS (via DNP3) or DERMS (IEEE 2030.5).

OTS support a range of implementation models, including on premise, off premise (AWS or Azure) or SaaS.

Security

The OTS sensors use state-of-the-art security measures such as network authentication, firmware signing and end-to-end encryption using DTLS.

OT Dashboard

The OT Dashboard is an Android and iOS application that allows you to securely share critical business information with stakeholders such as executives, customer relations and field personnel.

The OT Dashboard can display any information (in real time) that can be obtained from databases or systems such as AMI or SCADA / DMS / OMS.

Example information that can be displayed includes:

  • Number of Customers off supply
  • Number of Life Support Customers off supply
  • Total Distribution Network Load or the loading of particular assets
  • % of Smart Meter data collected
  • Documentation such as network diagrams, business continuity documentation, emergency management documentation
  • Emergency and key contacts

In addition to displaying summary information, documentation and detailed reports, users can also set limits for the application to provide notifications. For example: “Send me a notification when there are more than 1,000 customers off supply”.

At the heart of the application is an Enterprise Architecture that:

  • Enables rapid deployment (the typical deployment time is two weeks)
  • Is secure. All data is encrypted using certificates. New users need to be approved by an administrator before obtaining access and extensive logging keeps track of access
  • The addition of contacts, documentation and information can done using a web interface
  • Can be securely accessed from anywhere

Web based administration make it easy to approve new users, see who is accessing the system and add contacts, documentation and links to the application.

The OT Dashboard requires a virtual machine within your organization (to gather data) and is sold as Software as a Service (SaaS) at a low annual fee regardless of the number of users accessing the application.
